E BIKES & E SCOOTERS

On Saturday 19/09/2026, 2 e-scooters were seized by police from youths, due to the riders causing anti social behaviour and others were educated around the laws of them and e-bikes.

It is ILLEGAL to ride any privately owned e-scooters and e-bikes in public, on roads, pavements, parks etc. You could get fined, penalty points on your licence and the vehicle seized. In case of minors having them seized, it is unlikely that they would get them back due to having no licence. Only rental scooters can be ridden as long as you have a full or provisional licence, rented through an official rental scheme and used in certain areas.

You can ride an electric bike if you are 14 and over, as long as it is an ‘electrically assisted pedal cycle’ (EAPC). They do not require a licence, tax or insurance. The EAPC must show the rated power output, bike manufacturer and either the bike's voltage or maximum speed that the motor can propel the bike, which is 15.5 mph, and the power output no more than 250 watts. These can be ridden anywhere that normal pedal bikes are ridden, not on pavements. If it is not an EAPC, then you need a valid licence and it has to be registered, taxed and insured.

Please do not allow your child to ride any of the above if you have bought them one and inform any who have one of the consequences, this includes adults who have also been seen riding them.
